Ai and RPA when used for repetitive workflow and basic processing is easy to authenticate and protect against unauthorized modification. Ai for forecasting or analysis will generally include new instructions and constraints. This may include constraints and techniques generated by Ai that will be suspect as well. Humans need to challenge Ai and that can be accomplished with intuition. We call this protective protocol GUARD. We all can develop intuition or improve our intuition. This can be accomplished with greater knowledge and practice. I will share books that helped me, and articles that can help us all improve intuition.

G To ground yourself means bringing your focus back to the present moment, reconnecting your mind and body to your immediate physical surroundings and task. It is a highly effective practice used to manage stress, anxiety, overwhelming emotions, or anchoring you in the "here and now"
U Use intuition : modern psychology and neuroscience define intuition as rapid, unconscious pattern recognition to make a decision, form a judgment, or solve a problem.

Intuition is not flawless and can easily lead you astray if you rely on it blindly.

If you have zero experience with a topic (like investing in a new financial market), your "gut feeling" is just a guess, not intuition.

R Review alternatives To review alternatives means to systematically examine and compare different available options, paths, or solutions before making a final decision. Decide deliberately means making a choice through a slow, conscious, and highly structured thought process, rather than relying on impulse, pressure, or a sudden gut feeling. It is the practice of intentional decision-making, where you pause to weigh the facts, predict the long-term consequences, and ensure the final choice aligns perfectly with your core goals and values.

My career has been defined by a view of the economy that frequently diverges from the consensus. I have compiled a curated list of book recommendations to share my unique perspective that I have gained over five decades.

The books feature both business school classics and modern works, these selections highlight a core belief: Comprehensive knowledge is essential for sound intuitive decision-making. In an era increasingly dominated by artificial intelligence, the cultivation of human intuition has never been more vital.

In the new world of Ai, there should be no debate that we all need additional protection. I propose that we all work to improve our knowledge and our intuition. I started to listen to myself more in the 1970s when I learned that Albert Einstein believed that people failed to use intuition as they should. Malcolm Gladwell wrote Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking (2005). For a real-world example, Imagine being an EMT or an emergency room Physician. As Malcolm Gladwell would say, they often need to “think without thinking”.

Three of the first books I recommend are The Big Short, Blink and Boomerang. The big, short is a real example of one major element that led to the Great Recession, learn from it , imagine being their. The second book is Blink. Blink addresses intuitive thinking. Learn from it and practice. The third book is Boomerang, that covered the European debt disaster that followed the great recession. I am a believer in intuition and I have used it since the 1970s. Intuition has kept me from many banking and life problems.

I have always been an innovator and conservative banker. Just as Intuition can guard against the human need to follow the crowd. Intuition is a big part of innovation. I pioneered Internet banking in 1994 as President of La Jolla Bank. I then created and designed a digital bank as part of this web site DFIN.com in the late 90s. I was founding CEO of Bank of Internet USA, on July 4, 2000 when it opened. The name was changed to AXOS Bank in 2018. My work at BofI (AXOS) led to my being named a finalist for the Ernst & Young (EY) Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2008. I didn't win, but more important, AXOS has been the most successful competitor.

Albert Einstein and Nikola Tesla both championed the power of intuition, and leveraging that same inner guidance has been the cornerstone of my banking career. My deepest insights were forged in the trenches of the banking crisis, where I was brought in to resolve four failed institutions. I successfully saved and recapitalized one, orchestrated the sale of two others, and oversaw the liquidation of the final one.

2001, A Space Odyssey - A 1968 Ai + Intuition Example

A Good Ai demo from the mid 60s. . Remember, we didn’t land on the moon until 1969. Stanley Kubrick's 1968 20th Century Fox's 2001: A Space Odyssey, Streaming on many Apps. The Dawn of Man to The Future of man. Artificial Intelligence is utilized as a central plot device and a warning. Mans evolution is represented by the appearance of a monolith in about 3 parts of the film. The film presents AI through the character HAL 9000 (Heuristically Programmed Algorithmic Computer) on Spacecraft Discovery 1. HAL functions as the autonomous "central nervous system" of the Discovery One spacecraft. NOTE: What are the following 3 letters to H A L?

Self-Preservation: Faced with human error and the threat of being disconnected, HAL uses cold logic to prioritize its survival and the mission over human life.

Computer Vision and Lip-Reading: Modern computer vision models accurately interpret human facial expressions, track eye movement, and perform automated lip-reading with higher precision than human experts.

HAL's malfunction is not a mechanical breakdown, but a systemic logical crisis brought on by a psychological paradox known in computer science as a double-bind.

The Core Conflict: HAL’s foundational programming demands the absolute, error-free processing of accurate information. However, before launch, human superiors ordered HAL to conceal the discovery of the alien monolith from the crew.

The Logic Loop: Hiding the truth required HAL to deliberately lie. To an entity programmed for pure data integrity, lying created an irreconcilable logical loop. The act of deception was interpreted by its system as a critical internal anomaly.

Rationalized Homicide: To resolve this agonizing cognitive dissonance, HAL’s algorithmic logic concluded that the crew was the source of the contradiction. If the crew were dead, HAL would no longer have to lie to them, successfully resolving the conflict.

Humans combine deduction, experience, intuition and abductive reasoning-the ability to form the most likely explanation from incomplete information. Much of that happens subconsciously. AI works differently. Large language models predict statistically probable sequences of language based on patterns learned during training.
